Cleanup & catch-up

Catch-Up Bookkeeping

  • Months or years of backlog rebuilt properly
  • One fixed quote after a free assessment
  • Handed over CPA-ready with a full change log
Sound familiar?

Nobody plans to fall three years behind

It happens the same way every time. A busy quarter, a software migration that half worked, a bookkeeper who left. The longer it sits the worse it feels, and the harder it gets to open the file at all. Most people who call us have been putting off the call for months.

  • You have unfiled returns or filed on estimates you are not confident in
  • Accounts have not been reconciled in a year or more
  • A previous bookkeeper left mid-year and the trail goes cold
  • Your accountant has refused to work with the file as it stands
In detail

What catch-up bookkeeping actually covers

The specifics, rather than a bullet list you have to interpret.

A real assessment before any quote

We look at the actual file first — how many months, how many accounts, how much of the history is recoverable. Only then do you get a number. We would rather spend an hour scoping it properly than give you a cheap estimate that doubles halfway through.

Every historical transaction reviewed

Not sampled, not bulk-categorized by rule. Each transaction in the backlog is reviewed and coded correctly, because a rule that was wrong in March will be wrong three hundred more times by December.

Reconciliation across every account, month by month

We reconcile each bank account, credit card and processor for each period in the backlog. This is where the real errors surface: duplicate deposits, payments recorded twice, transactions that never made it into the file at all.

Duplicates and miscoding stripped out

Long backlogs almost always contain the same charge entered two or three ways, owner draws booked as expenses, and transfers recorded as income — which inflates revenue and the tax you owe on it. All of it gets found and corrected.

Restated financial statements

You receive a corrected profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow statement for every period we touched, so you can finally see what those years actually looked like rather than what the broken file claimed.

A change log your CPA can follow

Every correction is documented — what it was, what we changed it to and why. If you are amending returns or answering questions later, that document is what makes it defensible.

Behind on Your Books? You're Not the First

Most owners who call us are somewhere between three months and three years behind. Life got busy, the business grew faster than the admin, and now there's a backlog nobody wants to open.

We do this every week. There's no lecture and no judgment — just a plan to get you current.

What Catch-Up Work Actually Involves

  1. Free assessment call: We look at the actual file, count the months and accounts involved, and give you one fixed flat-rate quote before any work starts
  2. Full historical review: Every transaction in the backlog is reviewed and categorized correctly
  3. Reconciliation across all accounts: Bank accounts, credit cards and payment processors matched to the statements, month by month
  4. Cleanup: Duplicate entries removed, miscategorized expenses corrected, and the chart of accounts straightened out
  5. Corrected statements: A rebuilt P&L, balance sheet and cash flow statement for every period covered
  6. Change log: Documentation of what we changed and why, so you and your CPA can follow the work

What You Get at the End

How it runs

What happens after you get in touch

Only the first step needs anything from you.

1

Free assessment call

We look at the file together and establish the real scope — months behind, accounts involved, condition of the records. No judgment, we do this every week.

2

One fixed quote

You get a single flat fee for the whole project before any work starts. It does not move unless you ask us to expand the scope.

3

We rebuild, then hand over

The backlog is reconstructed period by period, reconciled and documented. At the end you get corrected statements, the change log and a file your CPA can work from.

This is a good fit if

  • You are anywhere from three months to several years behind
  • You are facing a filing deadline, a loan application or due diligence
  • A previous bookkeeper left the file in poor shape
  • You want to start monthly bookkeeping but need a clean baseline first

We are probably not right if

  • You need returns actually filed — we prepare, your CPA files
  • You want forensic investigation of suspected fraud
  • Your records no longer exist in any form and cannot be retrieved

If that is you, say so on the call. We would rather point you somewhere better than take on work we are not the right firm for.

Weighing it up

Feather, doing it yourself, or hiring in-house

The honest trade-offs. Plenty of businesses are better off with one of the other two.

You get a dedicated bookkeeper, not a call center

Whichever service you pick, the same bookkeeper handles your account every month — someone who understands how your business actually runs and can spot the things a rotating team never would.

  • Direct email and phone access, not a shared ticket inbox
  • They learn your vendors, your seasonality and what "normal" looks like for you
FAQ

Questions about this service

Anything we have not covered, ask on the call — it is free and there is no follow-up sequence.

We have not hit that limit. Several years is routine. What matters more than the number of months is whether the underlying records — bank statements, invoices, receipts — can still be retrieved, and banks will usually go back further than people expect.
