Sage bookkeeping

Sage Bookkeeping for Boston Businesses

Already running Sage in Boston, Massachusetts? We keep the books in the system you have. No migration, no switching argument.

  • Records kept in the state your accountant needs
  • A flat monthly rate, quoted before we start
  • The same dedicated bookkeeper each month

Research-funded companies are a large part of the Sage work here — life sciences businesses, clinical research suppliers and the consultancies around them. Their books have a job an ordinary monthly close does not do, which is showing what was spent against which award in a form the funder will accept.

What's included

What our service covers in Boston

Everything below is part of the engagement — no surprise add-ons.

Bank and card reconciliation

Each account matched to the statement monthly, with differences investigated and explained rather than quietly absorbed into a suspense account.

Cleanup and catch-up

If the Sage file has drifted or you are months behind, we quote that separately as one-time work so it never holds up the monthly service.

Supplier and customer ledgers

Aged payables and receivables kept current, so what you are owed and what you owe are numbers you can act on rather than estimates.

Sales tax and VAT records

Maintained on whatever basis you report, in the state your accountant needs them. We keep the records; the filing and the advice stay with them.

Transaction coding

Every line categorized against a chart of accounts built around how your Boston business actually earns and spends, coded the same way each month so comparisons hold.

How it runs

What happens after you get in touch

Only the first step needs anything from you.

1

Tell us what you are running

A short call covering which Sage product you use, your Boston transaction volume and how many accounts are involved. You get a flat monthly rate on that call.

2

We pick up the file

Access is set up, the chart of accounts is reviewed and tidied where it needs it, and we agree what belongs in your monthly pack. Usually about a week.

3

It runs monthly

Transactions are coded as they arrive, ledgers reconcile each month, and your reports land on schedule. When something needs a decision, your bookkeeper calls.

Why us

Why Boston businesses choose Feather Accounting

Reconciliation differences investigated, not absorbed
One consistent bookkeeper for your Boston account
Usually under 30 minutes of your time each month
Aged debt flagged before it becomes a cash problem
Records kept accountant-ready all year
Good fit

This is a good fit if…

  • Your ledgers have drifted from what the bank actually says
  • You want the same bookkeeper every month, not a rotating team
  • You want records your accountant can use without a cleanup first
  • You are months behind and want a plan rather than a lecture

Spending against awards

A standard set of accounts groups costs by what they are. A funded organisation also needs them grouped by what they were funded for, and reconciling the two by hand each quarter is where most of the pain sits.

Sage carries that attribution once it is recorded at entry rather than reconstructed afterwards, so both views come from one set of records.

Staff time split across awards is the hardest part to keep current and the first thing to lapse. Once it does, award reports understate personnel cost and overstate what remains available, which is the most consequential error a file like this can hold.
